‘Legacy’ is about life and living. It’s about learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future.
Over the last five years, through the buyback and demolition processes, nearly 1,000 Canberra families have lost their homes due to loose-fill asbestos insulation (known as Mr Fluffy insulation) in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Over time many people have lived in, worked on or in, or visited these affected homes. It has affected many homeowners, tenants, tradespeople, communities and children.
The Mr Fluffy Community and Expert Reference Group (CERG) is leading a community consultation program to acknowledge the effects of 50 years of Mr Fluffy in Canberra homes and the community is invited to share their experiences and ideas.
The CERG are currently reviewing submissions received throughout the process and are drafting the Discussion Paper. Once complete, this will be made availale for input from the community. The final Discussion Paper will include recommendations to the ACT Government for developing a suitable and community-supported way of acknowledging the effects of Mr Fluffy on the Canberra community.
